Dr Bernie Bredhauer BVSc (Hons)

Dr Bernie is the head vet at our Northgate practice but is behind the scenes in every aspect of St Vincents Vets which he co-owns with wife, Dr Megan.

Dr Bernie Bredhauer graduated from the University of Queensland with a BVSc (Hons) in 1991, and spent just over a decade working in Veterinary Clinics in Brisbane and Perth, and conducting Doctorate research into FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus);  before he and Megan became the owners of Northgate Veterinary Surgery in 2003.

Bernie’s experience over those 27 years in Practice is in dogs, cats and small mammals (rats, guinea pigs and mice), and he has a wide range of professional interests in small animal medicine and surgery, which he constantly updates with regular conferences, professional courses and discussions with specialists. Bernie is a caring veterinarian whose focus is to provide a professional, modern, and well-equipped clinic, while still keeping the personal feel of a local vet practice. He strives to ensure that his clients feel comfortable knowing that their pets are being cared for compassionately, and where they feel they can easily talk with their vet, and be informed and involved in decisions regarding their pets’ treatment.

Bernie is married to Megan, also a vet, and they have two young-adult daughters and 17 pets. Bernie has an understandably hectic lifestyle, but when able to relax, enjoys indie rock music, playing guitar (poorly), bushwalking and cooking. He is an avid rugby fan having been the proud manager of the Qld Red’s Rugby club’s junior mascot Red Heeler, Red Dog. He also makes a mean home-brew.
